Escuela Toranit

CABA. BUENOS AIRES
The project takes on the responsibility of creating a building with a strong contemporary language, a clear institutional character, and an understanding of the morphology of the proposed site.

The decision to minimize the height, as well as to carve out the built mass around an internal courtyard that creates an interior landscape with high-quality natural lighting, reflects the project’s sustainable spirit. Two wings are organized around this interior courtyard. The skin facing the street, with northwest orientation, is materialized through movable aluminum sunshades, while the southwest-facing skin is expressed as a series of projecting balconies clad in an integral galvanized metal mesh.

The building’s lobby connects directly to a large gathering space, visually open toward the garden at the rear of the site and also linked to the natural light of the central courtyard. A system of generously sized staircases connects the auditorium in the basement with the upper classroom levels, which are interconnected through half-levels by means of a glazed staircase set against the party wall.

Each level includes broad areas for collective recreation, conceived as spaces for circulation and the movement of large flows of children, emphasizing recreational areas as much as classrooms and vertical circulation spaces. All of these spaces maintain a visual connection with the central courtyard.
The proposal seeks to respond to the program through an efficient building that addresses the urban condition in a creative way, adding a note of color and generating interior spaces for children that foster creativity, freedom of thought, and the dignity of learning spaces.
